I’ve used Mr. Rebates since 2006. Although I belong to several cash back rebate sites, Mr. Rebates is my hands down favorite because it has so many stores and often has the highest cash back percentage you can find online.
Sites like Mr. Rebates are most often used for online shopping. Over the years, however, I’ve found some ways to easily turn my offline (i.e. real world) shopping into cash back from Mr. Rebates.
This one I discovered by accident.
Shoes are kind of hard to buy online, I think. That’s why I rarely considered Mr. Rebates for shoe purchases.
But I was shoe shopping with my son and he chose a pair of tennis shoes that the store didn’t have in his size. I told him I would order the shoes online and, of course, I used Mr. Rebates when I did and got the cash back. I was happy to do it this way because so many online shoe stores offer free shipping (even for returns!) so my rebate wouldn’t be eaten up with shipping charges.
It occurred to me that I should always turn my “offline” shoe shopping into online orders if I don’t mind waiting a day or two for them to arrive. The more expensive the shoes, the more it’s worth my while to do this. (And teenage boys’ tennis shoes are expensive!)
Office Supply Stores
These are another place where you can get free shipping so it’s easy to turn your offline shopping into online shopping and get the cash back..
The three major chains – Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max – offer shipping on orders of $50 or more. Mr. Rebates also offers cash back of 1% – 3%, depending on the store.
If you have a small business, this is a no brainer. But even if you don’t, it can be smart to order printer cartridges or even school supplies through the stores’ websites to get the cash back.
It’s convenient too. Having school supplies delivered to your door vs. fighting the crowds at Target? Yes, please!
Mr. Rebates has an entire section of stores where you can get cash back for ordering gift cards from their site. (Log onto Mr. Rebates and look for ‘Gift Cards’ under categories.)
This is great for gift buying, obviously, but if you find a store where you regularly shop or plan to shop soon, you might as well purchase a gift card and get the cash back. That way you can take advantage of cash back rebates for ‘real world’ shopping.
Here are some examples:
- Nordstrom – 5% cash back
- Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s – 3% cash back
- Dillard’s – 3%
- Eddie Bauer – 5% cash back
- Jos. A. Bank – 5% cash back
- Kmart – 2% cash back
- Meijer – 2% cash back
- Staples – 1% cash back
- Ulta – 5% cash back
As a reminder:
- Mr. Rebates is free to join plus you’ll get a $5 bonus just for signing up.
- In order to get the cash back, you’ll need to go to the Mr. Rebates site and click through to the store’s site from there.
- The rest of your shopping experience will be exactly the same as if you had gone to the store’s site directly.
If you have any questions about Mr. Rebates, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’ve used them for almost five years and have received many, many cash back payments from them.
