Works for Me Wednesday: Photographing Books for eBay

by Julie on May 9, 2007 · 10 comments

This is definitely not my original idea, but I saw it on the web somewhere and it has worked for me ever since. When I photograph a book to sell on eBay, I lay the book flat on a solid background and take the picture sideways. Then I rotate the picture in my software so that it looks like it is standing up, or sometimes floating. It’s a neat effect!

Smart idea! I’ve got some books I’ve been thinking about selling on ebay. I’m going to try to photograph them like this. Then I’m going to combine this idea with Lela’s…see WFMW #24 this week! I swear sometimes, there is a psychic connection between bloggers.

You have a very interesting blog! I love being frugal and appreciate the reality-based tips! Some ideas in books on frugality are not easily put into practice.

I took some pictures for my blog on my dark coffee table. When I posted them…I noticed it looked like they were floating. That is a great tip. I wonder if that would work with a white background too.

I have been enjoying reading your archives and have even borrowed your Take Stock Tuesday idea – but I notice you haven’t posted in a few months? I hope you start again as I am learning a lot from your blog. :)

Looks great–do you take the pics to show condition of older books? I’ve always just used the stock photo from the ISBN.

Sahmmy – Yes, I do this to show the condition of older books. Otherwise I would use the stock photo, as you do.

fitcat – Thanks for your nice words. I’m a very hot and cold blogger but I seldom give it up for good. I hope you’ll check back!
