Ebates Reward Equals Extra Credit Card Payment

Gosh, these reward programs can take a long time. But it's nice to get a surprise in your email inbox like I did this week: $37.39 from Ebates.

Because it's been a while I couldn't remember exactly what the rewards were for so I went to check it out. Here's the breakdown:

  • $2.39 from eBags for a backpack I bought in August.
  • $5.00 promotion reward for signing up with Ebates back in May
  • Another $5.00 promotion reward - I'm not sure for what - in September.
  • And five $5.00 referral credits for people who signed up for Ebates using my links in July, September, and October. Thanks guys!

Back in June I wrote about opening a Sharebuilder account through Ebates for a $20 bonus. For various reasons, we chose never to complete the Sharebuilder transaction so I can't vouch for how that particular rebate played out. If you went through Ebates to open a Sharebuilder account, I'd love to hear if you received your rebate okay.

As I've done before with other rewards, I applied the $37.39 Ebates reward to the credit card balance that I'm working on. I love free money!

I enrolled in Sharebuilder through my credit union. I received $40 credits for each of the three accounts I opened. One for me and 2 for my kids. I use my account mainly for saving for big ticket items like braces or tires for my vehicle. I earn a higher interest rate than a bank account and more than most of the interest rates on my credit cards. I also chose stocks that pay good dividends which I automatically reinvest.

i'm huge on snowflaking and it's indeed true that every little bit counts! right now i'm using the snowflake method to save up $700 for spending money when we go on vacation in september so that we don't charge anything. i started it on the 1st of the month and i've already got $609 saved up! most of it is little stuff here and there with a big $250 addition from selling a laptop on ebay. i'm surprised at how fast it all adds up.

great to see ebates working for you. i joined recently, also. the second $5 promotion is probably the same one they gave me to encourage me to shop since i hadn't made a purchase since opening the account. :)
