Works for Me Wednesday: Keeping the Car Clean
If, like I do, you drive kids around all day, you know that the car or SUV or minivan can quickly become like one, big garbage can. In one of my first WFMW posts, I wrote about using empty kleenex boxes to collect trash in the car. Another tip I have for keeping the car uncluttered is to be on the lookout for trash cans when you're out and about.
Did you know that almost every store, drive through, doctor's office, etc. has a trash can right outside it's doors? Whenever I'm heading in someplace I grab whatever empty cups, napkins, candy wrappers, or other trash I can see around me and I have the kids do the same. Then we deposit it in the trashcan as we're headed in to buy groceries, pick up a pizza, or get allergy shots. I also use the time while my gas is pumping to check the back of the van and under seats for stuff to throw away.
That's what works for me. Check out Rocks in My Dryer for other cool WFMW tips. And if you're a first-time visitor to The Family CEO you can find my other WFMW submissions here.

That's a great idea, and one that I use too, when I remember. My van also has a special clip near the passenger side for a plastic grocery bag, which can be used for trash. It works well for us!
I do the same thing at the gas station. The bad thing is that I have thrown AWAY my debit card three times. I just chuck it with the trash. Note to self, don't hold trash & debit card in same hand ;)
I'm trying to get better about this. I am constantly amazed at the amount of trash that can build up in the car. Thanks for the reminder!
Within reason, OK. Otherwise you're just making somebody else pay your garbage bills, which isn't right, I don't think. Is it? (Said by a lady who helps run a gas station. We don't make much money - we get paid eight cents per gallon pumped regardless of the pump price - and extra overhead hurts. Big time.)
It's never more than a handful of trash and I assume those trashcans are there for a reason...
