Works for Me Wednesday: The Pending File

The most valuable file in my home filing system is without a doubt the "pending" file. This is where I put paperwork for actions that I'm waiting to have taken. Things like:

  • Insurance Reimbursements
  • Items I've ordered and am waiting to have delivered
  • Rebates
  • Cancelled accounts

Whenever I put something new in the folder, I quickly thumb through the other items and if it's something I've already received I toss the paperwork. If an item remains in too long then I know to follow up on it.

I have a pending basket too, I just file stuff maybe once a month because my file cabinet is hard to get to. :)

I hear you, Tess! My filing cabinet is easy to get to and yet I only do real filing about once a month. Of course a lot of stuff in my pending file never even makes to real filing. It just gets tossed. Thanks for visiting!

Thank you! This is one I can use. I tried using folders 1 to 31 but I never looked in them. "Pending" I can handle to remember to check weekly. Plus one folder takes up MUCH less space!

YOU are organized! I can tell.

Good idea! I usually throw that stuff back in my "to do" drawer and then have to keep sifting through it to find the things I have "to do."
