My grocery deal. Or how to feed a family of four for $2

I shop at the expensive store in town. It’s the closest to my house, I’ve shopped there forever, and I like it. So there. They do double coupons up to 50 cents, however, but I digress.

Knowing that it’s the most expensive store, I’ve lately started to use coupons and pay special attention to sales and loss leaders. They ran one of my favorite specials last week and I took advantage of it last night.

It goes like this: Buy 10 packages of Lipton noodles or rice for $10 (regular price: $1.49) and get a rotisserie chicken for free. My kids love the rice and noodles so having 10 of them assures that I have a fast, easy side dish in my cupboard that I use about once a week or so.

Last night’s dinner was the free rotisserie chicken, Lipton Broccoli Alfredo Noodles, and some frozen broccoli I had on hand that I steamed. Easy peasy and the family loved it. Total cost = around $2. Gotta love it!

*Grin* The glory of free/cheap stuff is getting to you, isn’t it? Gotta love that shopping!

Wow, that sounds yummy. I haven’t tried those Lipton noodles. We eat a lot of Annie’s mac and cheese, but now that my two-year-old has a hollow leg it’s not really enough as a main dish for three people.

Our classic cheap-o fast meal is Annie’s mac and cheese, frozen spinach, and a can of beans heated up with some simple spices.
